ANNE CHAMBERLAIN

Anne is an Emeritus professor of Rehabilitation Medicine in the University of Leeds.

Anne Chamberlain founded a network of rehabilitation services in Leeds, Yorkshire, over some 25years. She was made a professor in 1988, one of the first female professors of Medicine in Leeds. Anne was awarded an O.B.E for services to Rehabilitation in the UK in 1998. In 2017 she was given an honorary D.Sc. of the University of Leeds for services to rehab both in the UK and for her work in Madagascar.

From 2008 she has been working with Dr Sonia Andrianabela of the Ministry of Health of Madagascar and the Dean of the University of Antananarivo, Prof Luc Samison. Together they produced the training programme which resulted in 8 doctors gaining a formal qualification in Rehabilitation Medicine and helped accompanying physiotherapists.
 

Ram Hariharan

Ram is a consultant in Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation in Sheffield. He has been teaching and supporting rehabilitation doctors and their teams in Madagascar since 2013. He was trained at Christian Medical College in Vellore, India and in 2018 took the pioneer SCI team of Madagascar, led by Dr Renaud to Vellore to understand all that can be done for those with spinal cord injury who do not have access to high resources.

He continues to support this team and alongside Dr Renaud is helping another essential SCI facility some 700 km away in Fianarantsoa.
 

Steve Halpin

Steve is a rehabilitation doctor in Leeds, UK, with a longstanding interest in global health. Having enjoyed the International Health intercalated BSc. at Leeds University, following graduation he went on to do a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, and spend 5 months in the Gambia with the Medical Research Council before becoming a Rehabilitation Medicine specialist. He has visited Madagascar on 3 occasions for training and research, the latest of which was heading a team training on amputee rehabilitation in Mahajanga.

Steve has recently written on the barriers many people face in accessing early treatments for trauma and the profound negative effects which ensue if such treatment is inaccessible.

Rory O’Connor

Professor O’Connor is Charterhouse Professor of Rehabilitation Medicine and Pro-Dean for Research and Innovation in the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Leeds. He is director of the University of Leeds’ Charterhouse Rehabilitation Technologies laboratory designing new equipment to improve function and quality of life.

Professor O’Connor is Lead Clinician and honorary consultant physician in Leeds Teaching Hospitals and Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trusts. He is also deputy clinical director and rehabilitation theme lead to the NIHR MedTech Co-operative, Devices for Dignity. Professor O’Connor’s work focuses on the development and testing of rehabilitation interventions to restore function, reduce disability, and improve independence, dignity and quality of life to children and adults with long-term conditions.
 

Simone Doctors

Dr Simone Doctors is an independent education, international development and human resources consultant with 30 years’ experience in education delivery, planning and policy formulation. She has worked extensively internationally, using English, French and Portuguese, including 17 years as a senior lecturer, researcher and teacher trainer in France and 4 years in Mozambique.

Simone undertakes research, training, monitoring and evaluation/impact assessment and capacity building missions for government, international organisations and NGOs. She uses culturally sensitive approaches and is committed to individual and institutional capacity development through her working methods.

Simone has a Doctorate in Education and Masters’ degrees in Human Resource Management and Linguistics. She is a chartered member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and member of the African Studies Association of the UK. www.simonedoctors.com
 

Sankar Raj

Sankar Raj is a specialist in implementing Business systems focussed in improving business processes and complying with statutory requirements. He has an international experience working in UK, India and the Netherlands, implementing such systems across several geographies in a career spanning over 25 years.

Sankar has joined the team of Global Rehabilitation recently as he is firmly convinced about the benefits of such training that can reach a huge number of people indirectly. He has a Post Graduate diploma in Management and a Bachelors degree in Engineering.
